The MusiciansGary Barone: trumpet Hendrik Meyer: acoustic and e-guitar Felix Behrendt: contrabass Wolff Reichert: drums Wolff Felix Gary Hendrik Gary Barone - Hendrik Meyer QuartetThe American trumpeter Gary Barone is internationally known through his work with prominent world-class musicians. He has played with the jazz groups of Shelly Mann, Stan Kenton, Bud Shank, and David Friesen, as well as with Canned Heat, Frank Zappa (Imaginary Diseases - Petit Wazoo) and Sergio Mendes in the rock-pop area. He has also recorded film music, e.g., Martin Scorcese’s New York, New York. When Gary met Hamburg guitarist and bass player Hendrik Meyer during a Gary Barone-Bob Lanese 10-trumpet project, Trumpet Madness, the wish for a cooperative effort was created spontaneously. Hendrik Meyers playing is influenced by Jim Hall and John Abercrombie - it is nevertheless unique, and is distinguished by interesting tone colors and sound surfaces. He has proved his versatility in many jazz, musical, and pop productions, as well as in projects of e-musik. He recorded with, among others, The Hamburg Jazzhaus Orchestra, the Melvin-Reichert Quartet, and worked with Herb Geller and Günther Fuhlisch. He is member of the Downtown Big Band and also leads his own group, the Turner Hendrickxs Group. For the current quartet, Hendrik commandeered his friends Wolff Reichert and Felix Behrendt, who are also stylistically versatile musicians. Felix Behrendt’s contrabass playing is vital and powerful, nevertheless, melodic. He solos like a horn player. He has shown his high musical qualifications not only in his work with Don Menza, Bobbie Shew, and Kenny Wheeler, but also with the Dortmund Philharmonic and the North German Chamber Philharmonic Orchestras. The quartet is completed by a kindred spirit - the Hamburg drummer Wolff Reichert, who more or less grew up in Hamburg’s Birdland Jazzclub and played at the professional level when he was only 14 years old. His area of activity has covered modern jazz (on CDs with Howard Johnson, Randy Sandke, Jonas Schön, among others), rock'n roll with the Rockhouse Brothers, and pop with his group Pay-TV. The Barone-Meyer-Quartett captivates the listener with modern jazz and groove, with own-compositions as well as treatments from the standard repertoire. Impressive compositions alternate with with touching ballads, hot rhythms, and cool swing - a wide spectrum of modern quartet jazz. Press releases (in German)
